Apple is reportedly working on releasing a more affordable headset, in light of its Vision Pro’s flawed construction and poor sales.
According to a report from The Information, Apple’s new headset in development is codenamed N109 and aims to be at least a third of the weight of the Vision Pro while retaining high-resolution displays.
Its target price range is comparable to a high-end iPhone model, between $1,500 and $2,500.
Apple Vision Pro's Challenges
Though the Apple Vision Pro has received praise for its immersive design and technological capability, it’s been heavily criticized for its battery life, impracticality, price, and weight.
Currently, the device is being sold for $3,499.
As of the moment, Apple still has plans to support the Vision Pro, with an international release and an operating system update rolling out this fall.
Despite this, the company’s long-term strategy may focus on a more affordable VR headset.
At present, the tech giant is still reportedly facing challenges in lowering costs without cutting features for the N109, which may delay the 2025 shipping goal.
